The Portland metropolitan area is a metropolitan region that spans the states of Oregon and Washington in the United States and is focused on the primary city of Portland, which is located in the state of Oregon. It is known as the Portland–Vancouver–Hillsboro, OR–WA Metropolitan Statistical Area, and it is a metropolitan statistical region that the United States Census Bureau and other organizations make use of. Its designation comes from the Office of Management and Budget of the United States.

According to the OMB’s definition, the region consists of the counties of Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill in the state of Oregon, as well as the counties of Clark and Skamania in the state of Washington. According to the census completed in the year 2020, the total population of the region was 2,512,859.

The portion of the metropolitan area that is located within the state of Oregon is the most populous urban center in the state, while the portion of the metropolitan area that is located within the state of Washington is the state’s third-most populous urban center, coming in third behind Seattle and Spokane (the Seattle Urban Area includes Tacoma and Everett).
