This weekend brings not only rain but a “bizarre things” expo, a haunted pub tour, a disco party and a bike sale.
PORTLAND, Ore. —
It’s officially mid-October and we’re looking at rain in the forecast for the Portland area after a record-breaking warm early October. The switch in weather really means that the Halloween events are in full swing now, and what better way to celebrate than by visiting the zoo, hitting up a drive-in, or staying indoors and watching a live concert. No matter what you choose, just remember to wear your rain boots and jackets.
Where: Oregon Zoo, 4001 Southwest Canyon Road, Portland
What’s going on: The Oregon Zoo is not staying behind when it comes to spooky events. “Howloween,” a Halloween tradition for the zoo, is back this weekend. The zoo provides a fun and safe setting for costumed trick-or-treaters to learn about healthy habitats for wildlife in a fun scavenger hunt throughout the zoo. Howloween aims to be educational as well as fun.
Cinema of Horrors Drive-In
Where: Clark County Fairgrounds, 17402 Northeast Delfel Road, Ridgefield
What’s going on: Get ready to scream as the screams from the screen come to life! This live-action, drive-in horror movie experience is one that you don’t want to miss. Re-watch cult horror films in this unique experience that features high-quality sound and lighting, in-car audio, Hollywood-quality makeup, monsters and terrifying surprises. The event does offer “family nights” if you’re too frightened of the more intense scares.
Portland Trail Blazers vs. Phoenix Suns
Where: Moda Center, 1 North Center Court Street, Portland
What’s going on: Now this isn’t a Halloween event, but when the Blazers are home you have to cheer along with Rip City at the Moda Center and become part of a Portland tradition. Watch as the Portland Trail Blazers take on the Phoenix Suns in this regular-season NBA game. So bring out your Rip City swag and head on over for some blazing fun.
The Big Steppers Tour: Live from Paris
Where: Your home, your friends house
What’s going on: Now, this is a different kind of event option for this weekend but we have to throw something out there for the “homebodies,” right? If you missed the chance to see Kendrick Lamar at Moda Center during the summer, no need to worry because the Grammy Award-winning rapper just announced that his sold-out Paris show on Saturday will be livestream for free, exclusively through Amazon Music and Prime Video. The event comes as Lamar’s monumental album “Good Kid, m.A.A.d city” turns 10.
Heartbeat Silent Disco
Where: Laurelhurst Park, Southeast Cesar E Chavez Boulevard and Stark Street, Portland
What’s going on: Grab your shades, your bell bottoms and get ready to disco on down. Well, you don’t really need shades and bell bottom pants to attend this event, but wouldn’t it be fun? Heartbeat Silent Disco brings this family-friendly event and allows people who like different types of music to still dance together in the same space. They encourage disco-goers to bring blankets, snacks, flow-toys and whatever else you feel would contribute to the fun.
Portland Oddities & Curiosities Expo
Where: Oregon Convention Center, 777 Northeast Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, Portland
What’s going on: Calling all lovers of strange, unusual and bizarre things — the Oddities & Curiosities Expo is in town this weekend just in time for Halloween, with everything weird and wonderful for your consideration. The expo will showcase hand-selected vendors, dealers, artists and small businesses from all over the country. You can expect to find just about anything weird, including animal skulls and bones, because we all need some (don’t worry items at the show are legal).
BeerQuest Haunted Pub tour
Where: Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub, 112 Southwest 2nd Avenue, Portland
What’s going on: Let’s save you some time from browsing through Yelp or Trip Advisor, as this event is an award-winning tour in Portland and is certified to get you spooked. Discover Portland’s dark side in this spine-tingling walking tour — along with some beer, because what’s more Portland than that right? The tour guides are local historians and ghost hunters who enjoy this stuff and have a passion for it.
Trek Bicycle Portland
Where: Trek Bicycle Portland Hollywood, 5329 Northeast Sandy Boulevard, Portland
What’s going on: Get ready to save big because Trek Bicycle in the Hollywood district is having a blowout warehouse sale. Now this isn’t a thrilling event but with inflation out of control, getting a deal is fun in today’s world. Grab your coins and head on over if you are need of a new bike and accessories. They will be having select bikes at 50% off, car racks at 60% off and more … while supplies last, of course.
